Within the span of 3 days we’ve heard of two suicide deaths from well-known celebrities. Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. The thing is that suicide is not unfamiliar. According to the CDC, suicide rates have markedly increased in 49 states since 1999. The CDC reports that about 45,000 people committed suicide in 2016 and that rates were more than 30 percent in at least 25 states when compared to 1999’s figures.
The thing is we don’t know what someone is truly going through unless we are them. Take accountability and make sure to check up on your strong friend. Checking up on them reminds them that they are loved, thought of, and cared for. We never know someone’s inner demons that they deal with. Be sure to be someone’s help and support system, whether you are family, friend or just an acquaintance before it becomes to serious that suicide even becomes an option.
May the souls of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain rest in perfect peace.
